Great Exam Results For 2010
Director of Studies, Mr Philip Coombe reports that the academic results from the 2010 NCEA and CIE examinations are excellent and in most cases the best ever achieved by the College. "King's students performed very well considering the challenges that they faced in 2010." he said
Highlights include: NCEA NCEA Level One - 80.6% gained Level One certificates and the top three students were Matthew Gibbs (School) gaining 122 credits, followed by Oliver Pinfold (Major) with 116 credits and Rhys Panama (Peart) gaining 114 credits. NCEA Level Two - 91.7% gained Level Two certficates and the top three students were Latafele Auva’a (Taylor) gaining 126 credits, John Brewin (Peart) gaining 119 credits and Kevin Fuavao (Major) gaining 116 credits. NCEA Level Three - 92.9% gained Level Three certificates and the top three students were Jacqui Cole (Middlemore), Campbell Kerr (Parnell) and Alexandra Andrews (Taylor). The University Entrance rate was 87.5%. Cambridge International Examinations (CIE)IGCSE 17.3% of students gained A* grades and 42.9% were A grades or better. 96.6% of students gained D grades or better.Richard Ngo (St John's) was top in New Zealand in IGCSE Information and Communication Technology and Alexis Stosik (Year 10, Parnell) gained a high achievement certificate for coming first in IGCSE Foreign Language Japanese. Eighteen students qualified for Half Colours and Jefferson Ko (Marsden) and Jamie Beaton (Greenbank) both gained seven A* grades. AS Levels 80.8% of our Year 12 CIE students gained University Entrance using this qualification in 2010. This is our best result to date. Seventeen students have qualified for half colours (3 ‘A’ grades in AS examinations) and 25 students gained full colours (4 ‘A’ grades in AS examinations). Edward Morgan (St John's) was Top of the World in Design and Technology. Henry Black (Greenbank) was Top of New Zealand in Biology and more significantly was third in the CIE category of ‘Best 5 AS Levels). Kelsey Brooke-Cowden (Taylor) was Top in New Zealand in Business Studies, Frazer MacDiarmid (Greenbank) was Top in New Zealand in Music and Thomas Prebble (Selwyn) was Top in New Zealand in Thinking Skills. Shan Jun Chang (St John's) was our top achiever in AS in 2010. He was first in the CIE category of ‘Best 5 AS Levels’ and has gained seven ‘A’ grades at AS Level. A Levels Our top six scholars for 2010 were: George Lowndes (Marsden) and Young-Eun Koo (Taylor) both with three A* grades and two A grades (one from 2009). William Coleman (Peart) with four A* grades and one A grade (from 2009). Thomas Brash (Greenbank) gained the most A levels of any King’s student. He gained three A* grades, three A grades (one from 2009) and one B grade. Two of the A* grades were gained in the June 2010 examinations in subjects that Thomas had self studied. Tony Liu (Peart) was awarded an exceptional five A* grades and one A grade (from 2009). He also gained a CIE high achievement certificate for being first in Spanish. Dux for 2010, Stephen Mackereth (Marsden), gained three A* grades and 3 A grades (two A grades were gained in 2009). Stephen also gained the notable accolade of gaining the CIE award for the Best 3 A Levels in 2010. ![]() Stephen Mackereth
